01 Feb UFC 189: The Rise of the Irish Conor McGregor
“The Notorious” Conor McGregor, is one of the most prolific and dangerous fighters in the UFC. With a record of 17-2, McGregor is currently undefeated in the UFC, knocking out 4 of his last 5 opponents. This man is quickly climbing the ladders of becoming the best featherweight fighter the sport has ever seen. His bad ass image, arrogant attitude and his killer instinct persona makes him one of the most talked about fighters the sport has ever inherited.
Held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the anticipation of UFC 189 is creating a worldwide buzz as fans from around the world are waiting to see the UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo go head-to-head with the number 1 contender Conor McGregor. However, it has been reported that Jose Aldo’s camp has announced that the fighter will be pulled out of the fight due to a bruised rib. UFC President Dana White has announced that Chad Mendes will replace Aldo and fight Conor McGregor for the interim Welterweight title. In McGregor’s response to the news he added, “Aldo is a coward, he is scared for his life we cannot force him to step inside and face me, he is afraid and the doctor has cleared him to fight. He has still pulled out and rightfully the belt should be taken from him.”
When McGregor was asked about his new opponent Chad Mendes, he responded “I’m going to demolish him, I’m going to rip his head off.” It was reported by Dana White that Conor McGregor offered to bet him $3 Million that he’d knock out Chad Mendes. Winning the UFC Featherweight title will make McGregor the first Irish to win a UFC belt. Having to accomplish this goal will surely make Jose Aldo hurry back to take back his title.
On the fight card is another title match between Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler and Canadian fighter Rory MacDonald. This will be the second bout for both fighters as Rory MacDonald is seeking redemption to defeat Lawler after the controversial split decision.
The fight is scheduled for this weekend, July 11 2015. This might be a start to a new era as “The Notorious” Connor McGregor is on the rise to becoming one of the best the sport has ever seen. Can he do it?
