Save the Last Bite – Sorelle & Co.

Even though someone doesn’t eat gluten, doesn’t mean they don’t crave something a little sweet now and then.  Gluten-free dessert, though?  Doesn’t sound quite satisfying, does it? Well, the creators of Sorelle & Co. are here to change the game when it comes to desserts that cater to alternative eating habits.  And not only are their products gluten-free, they are also soy-free, vegan, nut-free and preservative fee.

Nestled next to a small plaza in Vaughan stands a country-esque house, a cottage style home with teal accents and a small front porch patio in the front.  But one step inside this bakery and you’ll forget the quaint cottage façade and embrace the high tea style café that Sorelle & Co. has to offer.  White and marble décor, grand chandeliers and pretty little things fill the space.  An open staircase and second floor opens up the space, as the downstairs offers a full café menu and a collection of dessert with some seating.

With such a wide selection of goodies, it was hard to choose just a few; so I grabbed a bunch.

Usually desserts that come with a slew of exceptions aren’t that appetizing but Sorelle never fails to amaze its clients.  We started with Sorelle’s chocolate mousse that was garnished with a sugared orange rind.  Although the texture was on point, it was the flavour that might prove to be a bit of an acquired taste.  Pungent chocolate with a citrus hint isn’t an easy taste to embrace.

This is just one of their cupcake flavours which is a lemon cupcake and raspberry icing.  The cake was moist, not too dense, as many gluten-free dessert tend to be and the icing was the perfect balance of creamy, sweet and tart.

I couldn’t choose just ONE doughnut, so I opted for both the Oreo doughnut as well as a sugar doughnut.  The Oreo one beats any coffee shop doughnut I’ve tried before. Although slightly denser than your typical doughnut, the chocolate was rich and the icing top added the perfect amount of creaminess to the dessert.  On the other hand, the sugar doughnut could not compare.  The flavour was a bit lacking, and the sugar coating seemed to reflect the feeling of sand in your mouth after a day lying on a beach.

Now this right here is the main attraction.  Brownies are hard to imagine without dairy but the baker at Sorelle have worked their magic into creating an amazing dessert that may even be better than regular brownies I’ve had in the past.  Moist, chocolaty and the definition of rich, I suggest a cold glass of the milk of your choice with this one.
