7 Ways to Keep Your Energy Positive in 2016


It may sound silly to some of you but meditation is like hitting the self-clean button on the oven.  I mean, it takes a bit more work than just a button to get into the right headspace, and it may take a few tries to really get it but the benefits are definitely worth it.  It’s like a mental shower, washing away the negativity that you may be holding onto for longer than necessary.  It helps to do it before bed, especially if you have trouble sleeping. 

Keep a Journal

It doesn’t have to have butterflies and a little heart locket, but somewhere to write down your most inner thoughts.  It’s hard to stay true to yourself in world based on playing a role as soon as you walk out of the door.  Our ego keeps us from expressing our true feelings at times, and when emotions get high, it helps to write them out and put them in order.   

Daily Affirmations

Daily affirmations are the easiest thing you can do to nurture positivity in your life.  You literally stare at yourself, if you choose to, and repeat one or two sentence mantras to yourself.  This especially helps if you’ve lost some self-confidence or just need a little boost.  The relationship you have with yourself is the most important one in your life, and it’s important to take care of it.

Conduct Regular Inventory

My grandmother used to say “Show me your five closest friends and I’ll you who you are.”  Something happens as you get older; you realize those really close friends you made in high school aren’t actually going to stick around forever.  And that’s okay.  A big part of growth and maturity is realizing when you no longer need something in your life.  We’re not saying to just go out there and cut everyone off, but those that are using more of your energy or bringing negativity into your life aren’t necessary.  It’s your choice to help them, if they want help or move on with your own life.

Think Consciously

Your thoughts are very impactful, much more than you’d imagine.  This relates to your daily affirmations, but a little less scripted.  It’s hard to constantly stay positive but it is important to understand that there is always a balance of the good and the bad.  But acknowledging the bad, understanding your own feelings towards it and letting go of it is a lot healthier than dwelling on it for days, weeks or even months!


Laughter is the best medicine.  Even those times where a smile seems far from happening, call that one person that can make you laugh and put them to work!  Or throw on a movie.  Laughter is proven to benefit the body and soul by relaxing the body, giving you that shot of endorphins and boosting your immune system.  It can also
