Five Tips for Improving Your Health

It’s not easy changing every aspect of your life in order to adopt a healthier lifestyle and improving your health, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.  By making small changes will make your goal seem much more attainable and encouraging.  Check out these five simple tips you can start today from our friends at Physiomed!

Get up, Stand up

We all know that society has changed drastically in the past several decades and with that, so has our lifestyle.  Cars, jobs and schools all force us to be in a sitting position for most of the day.  This not only adds pressure to your back but can also lead to higher blood sugar, cholesterol and overall weight.  By getting up and standing for short breaks at work, during commercial breaks when you’re home and even doing chores like folding laundry.  All of these things can easily be put into your daily routine without much change necessary.

Don’t Be So Salty

While people are worried about carbs and calories, sodium is usually something that people skip over on the nutrition label, however, studies have shown the 85% of men and 60% of women (between 19-70) eat much more than the daily recommended sodium intake. Foods with a high salt content can increase your chances of high blood pressure, kidney disease, stroke and heart disease.  Processed foods tend to contain very high sodium levels so avoiding those would be beneficial.  Make sure you’re reading the labels of any food you purchase as to avoid having too much salt in your daily menu.


Water is something that cannot be stressed enough.  The benefits to staying hydrated throughout the day penetrates through so many levels of keeping your body healthy from your energy to your digestion to even your skin!  To help ensure you’re getting enough water throughout the day, carry a refillable water bottle with you so it’s always in hand and you can even measure throughout the day how much water you’ve had.  Don’t forget that many foods contain water too, so certain fruits and veggies will help keep you hydrated as well.

Get Those Veggies

We’re not saying you have to hate your life and eat a plate of raw veggies, but sneaking them into your mains and even smoothies will increase daily intake.  Hiding them in pasta sauce will add an extra serving to your day!  Grilling them is also an easy way to pack them into your diet this summer.  Not a fan of their taste?  Throw a handful of greens into your smoothies, blend and enjoy! You’ll barely taste the vegetables!

Put Down the Screens

It is suggested that at least an hour before you go to bed, avoid looking at a screen as it not only makes it harder to fall asleep but your quality of sleeps decreases as well.  And let’s be real, nothing good gets done when you’re tired.  Not only does it cost your productivity but lack of proper sleep can make you susceptible to certain conditions such as heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
