Canada Day Marketing to Take Note Of

Canada Day weekend usually marks the official kick off to summer. And while many of us were busy taking selfies with the giant rubber duck, some big brands were showing their love to our home and native land. Some hit the spot while others just left a bad taste in our mouths.

Roots Canada
The Canadian clothing brand tugged at our heartstrings with this minute long ad that plays on the number one stereotype of us Canadians – we’re nice.

The fast food chain, although American, made a pretty bold campaign out of the patriotic holiday by not only changing up their packaging to read ‘K’ehFC’ but also including this commercial ad that’s pretty reminiscent of those old Molson ‘I Am Canadian’ ads that proudly highlighted Canadian lifestyle and culture.

Tim Hortons

The Canadian classic seems to have forgotten its roots this long weekend.  Forgetting about healthy eating, Tim’s offered Canadian inspired treats such as a poutine doughnut and a maple bacon iced cappuccino, topped with bacon bits and maple flakes – to their American fans, only.  It was done in an effort to get our southern neighbor to ‘get in on the 150th celebration.’

What Canada Day marketing initiatives caught your eye this weekend?
